The First International Workshop on Biomedical Data Engineering will be held in Tokyo in conjunction with IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering 2005. Modern electronic computers were invented around 1945, and DNA double helix was found in 1953. 21st century is the century to integrate both areas to understand the mystery of life. The workshop focuses on data engineering aspects of life science and medical data, or such related areas as image processing, pattern recognition, and so on. One of its goals is to facilitate collaboration between researchers and engineers in Data Engineering field and the ones in bioinformatics and medical fields. Papers on, but not limited to, the following topics are solicited.
Accepted papers will be included in the workshop proceedings published from IEEE Computer Society Press.
Best papers selected from the accepted papers will be published in a special issue of International Journal of Bioinformatics Research and Applications
